Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen the selection process for village officials through assistance based on merit, public service discipline, and local wisdom. The activity was motivated by the need for villages to recruit officials who are competent, administratively disciplined, ethical, and capable of serving citizens in accordance with local social values. The program was conducted on October 16, 2025, at Hotel Prima SR, Yogyakarta, involving the selection committee and nine candidates for village official positions in Sendangmulyo Village, Sluke District, Rembang Regency. The method adopted a participatory approach consisting of job-needs analysis, development of selection indicators, written tests, computer-based tests, structured interviews, and evaluation. The results indicated that seven participants achieved written-test scores above the minimum standard, eight participants completed the computer-test instructions properly, and seven participants met work-readiness criteria in the interview stage. The assistance also produced a more measurable and transparent assessment rubric that incorporated deliberation, mutual cooperation, and ethical village communication. This activity is valuable as a model for professional, accountable, and locally rooted governance in village official selection. Keywords: merit system, village official selection, public service discipline, local wisdom, village governance
